Exhibit Open:
Quilts will be on display at the Lewistown Art Center, Tuesday, January 23 through Wedneday, January 31 during Art Center hours: Tuesday – Friday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Demonstrations and Classes:
Friday, January 26, 10:00 – 5:00 at the Art Center. Paper Piecing class taught by Shawna Crawford and Gerri Campbell. Register at the Art Center prior to class. 406-535-8278.

Silent Auction:
Quilters of Central Montana are participating in a challenge to bring out their creativity while raising funds for bringing quilt classes to Lewistown.  This year’s inspiration is derived from local author Maxine Melton’s book “Roots in the Prairie Dust,” a collection of childhood memories of the Depression years in Eastern Montana.  Items will be offered for silent auction, displayed at Lewistown’s Sew Pieceful until Winter Fair and then at the Trade Center January 27th. Auction will close that afternoon.

On or before Thursday, January 18th entries may be delivered to Lewistown’s Sew Pieceful (214 W Main • Lewistown) or shipped to Gerri Campbell at 187 W Frontage Rd, Lewistown, MT 59457.  Note – shipping is at your own risk.

Please complete General Registration Form, Section 1 & 2, and include with your entry.
Under description, include a visual description of your quilt (size, color, design, etc) so we can identify it easily.
Include return postage if your quilt is to be returned to you via mail.

Pick Up:
Items may be picked up at the Lewistown Art Center between on Thursday, February 1, between10:00 am and 5:00 pm.  Pickup can also be done during regular Art Center hours that week. If you would like your quilt returned to you by mail (at your own risk), please include the cost of shipping with your registration form.

$30 Art Center Gift Certificates for Best of Class winners.
$100 Lewistown’s Sew Pieceful Gift Certificate for Best of Show winners.
$75 Lewistown’s Sew Pieceful Gift Certificate for People’s Choice winners.

Rules:

  1.  Competition is open to any person, any age, amateur or professional.  
  2. Quilts entered in previous Winter Fair Quilt Shows are not eligible. 
  3. Quantity of entries from each exhibitor is not limited.  Note this is changed from previous Winter Fair shows - let’s grow this exhibit!!  If display MUST be limited due to space, priority will go to displaying equal entries for each person.
  4. An eligible quilt entry must consist of three layers (top, batting and backing) and be hand or machine quilted.  There are specific lots available for tied entries. All entries must be complete, undamaged, clean and show ready.
  5. The handiwork of the quilt must be the work of the exhibitor.  Specified lots are available for entries commercially quilted: items quilted by a professional, either yourself or someone else.
  6. A fabric label with name of entrant should be sewn or securely safety pinned on the back of the quilt to serve as permanent identification.
  7. Use the official entry form or a copy of it.  Only one exhibitor per form.  Entry form must accompany quilt(s) to be entered.  Under description, include a concise visual description of your quilt (size, color, design, etc) so we can identify it easily.
  8. Please include a Quilter's Statement with each entry: In approximately 50 words or less, tell the viewers about your quilt (inspiration? special techniques? story?) Please write legibly. We reserve the right to edit for clarity and/or length.  When entries are dropped off, cards will be available to complete for hanging with the quilts.
  9. Diligence will be taken to assure safety and care of articles after their acceptance and placement.  In no case will Montana Winter Fair and/or its representatives be responsible for loss or damage. Safety may preclude articles being displayed to their best advantage.
  10. Judging: 
    1. All entries will be judged and considered for awards.
    2. For judging, tags and labels containing name of exhibitor are covered.
    3. First, second and third place ribbons in each lot in each class will be awarded by the judge.
    4. Best of Class and one overall Best of Show, all named by the judge, will be awarded a rosette and gift.
    5. People’s Choice voting will be conducted during Winter Fair, winner will receive a rosette and gift.
    6. When entering, exhibitor may choose to ask for written feedback from the judge.
  11. Exhibits not complying with rules will not be eligible.  Submission of quilts will imply acceptance of all rules.  Judges decisions will be final.  Superintendents or judges reserve the right to reject an entry deemed unworthy or in bad taste, or to shift an entry from one class or lot to another.  Any quilt not fitting a category will be entered as Any Other.
  12. Superintendent and Art Center Director have the final decision in displaying of quilts.  If we have the fortunate challenge of more quilts than the Art Center can hold, Superintendent reserves the right to spread the show to appropriate, safe downtown locations to allow viewing of all pieces.
  13. Quilts may be offered for sale at the Art Center during the Quilt Show under the Lewistown Art Center Terms and Conditions.  Please contact the Lewistown Art Center for details and sale of your quilt.
