Long ago a beautiful maiden was sighted cooling herself in the blue waters of a crystal clear lake somewhere in the middle of Montana. After her swim, she threw a shimmering cape over herself and climbed up a rambling mountain trail to a brilliant ice cave where she lived with her Grandfather.

When her Grandfather passed over the Big Divide, the beautiful maiden stayed in the ice cave. She lived simply, studying the tattered books of knowledge, left to her by her Grandfather. Everyday, she learned as much as she could about plants and animals and the mysterious ways of Mother Nature.

Legend has it that once every winter, the beautiful maiden emerges from her ice cave home to come down the mountain to reign over the Montana Winter Fair. The fair is a celebration of “living things” in Lewistown, a lovely spot nestled on Big Spring Creek, surrounded by a heavenly ring of mountains.

The Ice Queen sprinkles her shimmering crystals over the land and blesses all life, seen and unseen.....especially the animals and crops that will soon be giving birth and starting a new growing season.

Children and admirers are always welcomed by the Ice Queen during her brief visit at the Winter Fair. She smiles serenely, knowing that the earth is renewing itself and that life is stirring within all the animals in anticipation of Spring.

The mystique of the Ice Queen, her beauty and wisdom of nature are amazing.
